Welcome to RHAM Junior Lacrosse
by posted 04/04/2021

Dear Lacrosse Players and Parents,

Welcome to the Spring 2021 RHAM Lacrosse season!

I would like to start off by introducing myself.    My name is Tom Wheeler and I will be coaching the boys Junior Lacrosse team this season along with Coach Rob Thompson.  I cannot express enough how excited we are to be coaching the boys this season.    I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again and getting outside!   I have been involved in lacrosse since high school/college many many years ago and this will be my 6th year coaching with the RHAM lacrosse club.

Juniors will be different from the previous years where we will be playing a 10v10 format (3 attack, 3 middies, 3 defense, and goalie).    For defense players they will be using long poles this year which will be challenging at first for those that wish to play that position.   During our practices I will encourage everyone to try each position a few times to see where they would like to play during games.      For the first week or two we will be focusing on the basic fundamentals before introducing anything new.     Most of us had last year off from lacrosse so I'm imagining we are going to need a refresher course on the game.

Covid 19 - Unfortunately we are still dealing with this nasty disease so we need to follow all basic mandatory protocols during games & practices.   More information on this can be found here:   https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-ZuaVK7hCIgcBnAjDQjoCwRXpOrtK8_J/view

Practices - Our practices will be Tuesdays and Fridays from 5:30 - 7pm at Burnt Hill Park (Football field).   Our first practice is Tuesday, April 6th..... this Tuesday.   We will be practicing during April vacation as well for those that are around.   They are not mandatory.

Games - I have not entered our games yet into the RHAM website as I'm still waiting on CVYL league access to do it right.   However our schedule is listed below.  Email reminders will be sent out a day before the game from our RHAM Lacrosse website.  In that email you will find buttons to let me know if your son is attending or not attending a game.  In the event of an emergency the day of the game and you need to get a hold of me my number is 978-257-0874.

Equipment needed:  Helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, arm/elbow pads, cleats, mouth guard, stick and a highly suggested protective cup.   All practices require full gear in order to participate.   Because of Covid players need to come ready to play.   If you need equipment I always go to Play it Again Sports in West Hartford.  They mostly have used equipment but some can be new.  But much cheaper!   For long defensive poles, I would wait a week to figure out if your son is interested in that position.

Communication
If there are any changes to practice times, games, or cancellations, I will be communicating to the team using the RHAM website e-mail system.    Make sure you have any emails you use for your family listed in there under your profile.
