Frequently Asked Questions
Is financial aid available? RHAM Youth Lacrosse works with AHM Family Services to provide financial aid to families of lacrosse players who require support to pay the RHAM Youth Lacrosse fee. If you are in need of financial aid, contact AHM Family Services at 860-228-0871. AHM will review your financial situation, and if appropriate, will approve a payment to us on your behalf. You will still be responsible to pay the $35 US Lacrosse fee. If you are approved for aid from AHM, contact Jennifer Tyler at tyler.jennifers@gmail.com to let her know to provide AHM with an invoice, and then register your child for lacrosse, including paying the US Lacrosse fee. When you get to the point of paying the RHAM fee, just log out. We will update your record with the payment when we receive it from AHM.
What season is lacrosse played? Lacrosse is a spring sport which is played from March through mid June. Additionally, many optional leagues, camps and clinics are offered in the summer, fall and winter. However, Spring is the primary lacrosse season.
How are the teams divided? The teams are primarily grade based but we must follow U designations as defined by US Lacrosse:
Little Laxers (Pre K & K)
Lightning (1st & 2nd)
Bantams (3rd & 4th)
Juniors (6th & 7th ) and Seniors (7th & 8th)
If a team has a large number of kids registered, we may split them into "blue," "gold," and "yellow" teams for that grade level.
In the boys' program, the league in which we participate (CVYL) requires that we offer an A and a B team if we have enough players for more than one team at the junior and senior levels. We will offer tryouts during the winter if we expect this to be the case.
The league in which our girls play, CVGYL, is a developmental league which requires that we divide teams evenly (if we have enough players for more than one team at either the junior or senior level.
How can I register my kindergartner? We are excited to offer Little Laxers, our introductory lacrosse program designed specially for our pre k (4 year olds) and kindergarten players! Little Laxers is a one-hour program which runs generally one day a week and is a fun opportunity for our youngest players to learn basic lacrosse skills. Registration opens over the winter for our spring season.
How does our family register? RHAM Youth Lacrosse offers Online Registration through this website. We also offer silbling discounts for our lacrosse families.
When does the lacrosse season start? The spring season begins in late March, depending on weather and field or indoor availability. Preseason training begins the beginning of March for grades 1-8.
How are Teams selected? All registered players (1st thru 8th grade) will be placed on a house team. House teams may compete at the recreational or competitive levels at the Junior and Senior levels depending on the number of players and teams that season. Players interested in trying out for a competitive team will need to sign-up based on grade level for the opportunity to tryout. Tryouts for this selection process will evaluate player’s skills in a variety of sport specific areas, team concepts and conditioning. Players scoring will determine the team composition. The coach of the team will not be involved in evaluation process. Team size will be determined by the RHAM Youth Lacrosse Coaches based on total number of players in each division. Players not selected or who did not tryout will automatically be placed on a team.
Where do we practice and play home games? Practices and games are primarily played at Burnt Hill Park Fields, RHAM fields on Wall Street, and Hebron Elementary School. Practices are twice a week in the evenings or weekends and games are weeknights or weekends in April and into early June. Little Laxers players generally practice once per week with no regular games but with lots of fun and great coaches!
Where are away games? The away games, tournaments and jamborees are played in different locations all over Connecticut but generally within a 45 minute drive from Hebron.
How do parents stay informed about what's going on? The RHAM Youth Lacrosse website is the main form of communication with players, coaches and families. Coaches and Team Managers also communicate info to players and parents. All team game schedules can be found on the website. Game and practice cancellations are communicated via emails. When registering make sure you use a email address you can access on weekends or you can always check your teams page on the website by selecting Team at the top and then choosing the season, and team name. You can also follow us on Facebook & Instagram.
What is U.S. Lacrosse? U.S. Lacrosse is the national governing body of men's and women's lacrosse. All players will become members of U.S. Lacrosse upon registering for our programs and will receive Lacrosse Magazine. All players and coaches will be insured by U.S. Lacrosse while participating in a Covered Activity (i.e. all our events, all U.S. Lacrosse events, all CVYL events ...). The U.S. Lacrosse website is http://www.uslacrosse.org.
What are the major differences between Boys and Girls lacrosse? In Boys' lacrosse, body contact is allowed above 3rd Grade and checking sticks are allowed. In Girls' lacrosse, no body contact allowed and modified stick checking at the 5th/6th & 7th/8th grade level only.
I don't seem to be getting emails? Sometimes your email provider will return a message to League Athletics (website) saying the email address is undeliverable. When that happens the website (league athletics program that we use for RHAM Youth Lacrosse) marks your profile as No Email. This is to comply with the no email regulations and avoid being marked a spamer. This is an automatic process and can happen even when you have been getting emails all along. To prevent it mark leagueathletics.com as a safe sender in your email program.
