The Learn to Play Lacrosse Program is an introduction to the sport of lacrosse for boys and girls in kindergarten through 12th grade.
The focus of the program is to introduce the basic skills and understanding of the game of lacrosse and to provide the players with an opportunity to experience the game of lacrosse.
This program is designed to allow other sports players or players new to sports the opportunity to try lacrosse without having to commit to the sport without knowing if the players will like it.
Players will be instructed by Coaches from RHAM Youth Lacrosse and CECAA Youth Lacrosse Programs.
Using skills and drills and an emphasis on fun and understanding rather than wins or loses or score. At the conclusion of the session players usually know if this sport is something they would enjoy playing in the spring. Players completing the Learn to Play program will have received coaching on scooping ground balls, cradling the ball, passing and shooting the ball and general game flow activities. Players deciding to continue on with lacrosse will have the basic knowledge to continue on with the sport however, practice and continued development will be up to the player. We are not going to make you a superstar with this program, we are going to however, give you a good starting point.
Players will be able to use some loaner Lacrosse Sticks and balls, no other equipment is required for practice however, sneakers (if indoors) or cleats (if outdoors) are required along with a water bottle.
This program is usually offered in the fall, prior to the registration period in November and December, for a few weeks to help new players and their parents see if Lacrosse is a sport they would like to participate in the spring. Parents of players that would like to play would then sign-up for one of our grade based programs.
