RHAM Youth Lacrosse
Code of Conduct

RHAM Youth Lacrosse (RYL) believes that boys and girls should be allowed to develop a love for the game of lacrosse while also learning the value of sportsmanship.   RHAM Youth Lacrosse also firmly believes that young athletes learn valuable lessons by watching the behaviors and attitudes of the adults who supervise their activities.

To ensure that the children who play lacrosse in our program have a positive experience, learn to play and love the game and develop as athletes, and to nurture within them a sense of respect for others, we have identified some expectations, a Code of Conduct, for coaches, players, parents and spectators.  The RHAM Youth Lacrosse Board of Directors reserves the right to remove anyone not fulfilling our Code of Conduct expectations from any game or practice, or even from our program completely.

Coaches and Assisting Parents

  1. Our top priority is the teaching of the game of lacrosse, not a team's record.
  2. Players are to be encouraged with positive reinforcement. At the end of the season, we want the players asking for more and eagerly anticipating next year's season.
  3. Referees are to be respected and supported.
  4. Do your best to ensure that everybody plays an equal number of minutes per game.
  5. Obscene language or gestures will not be tolerated.

Non-Coaching Parents and Spectators

  1. Players are to be delivered to the field on time and with all of their necessary protective and athletic equipment.
  2. Players will be positively supported and encouraged.
  3. Coaches will be positively supported and encouraged.
  4. Referees will be positively supported and encouraged.
  5. Any concerns about how the league is run, coaches are coaching or referees are officiating should be referred to the Head Coach first, and if you are not satisfied, then a RYL Director.
  6. Sportsmanlike conduct will be maintained at all times. Maintain respect for both your team and your opponents at all times.  No heckling or harassing of the opposing team, officials, or players will be tolerated.
  7. Discuss with your sons and daughters the guidelines for players that are listed below.

Players

  1. Players should understand that lacrosse is a team game, and they should strive to be "team players."
  2. Players should arrive at the field on time and fully equipped.
  3. Club team players are expected to play on a House team.
  4. Coaches and referees are volunteering their time for your good and must be respected.
  5. Sportsmanlike conduct will be maintained at all times. Maintain respect for both your teammates and your opponents at all times. No heckling or harassing of the opposing team, officials, or players will be tolerated.
  6. Obscene language or gestures will not be tolerated.
